Key learning points
- The Spanish vowels [a], [e], [o] are strong vowels. When they appear next to each other, they are pronounced separately.
- Numbers 16-19 use 'dieci-' + the numbers 6, 7, 8 or 9, all in one word.
- Numbers 21-29 use 'veinti-' and a number from 1-9, all in one word.
- Numbers 31-39 use 'treinta' + 'y' + a number from 1-9, in three separate words.
- Many months are cognates. Unlike in English, they start with lowercase letters, unless at the start of a sentence.
