      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can say how I and others are feeling today.

Vocabulary and transcripts for this lessons

      Key learning points

      1. The Spanish vowels [a] [e] [i] [o] [u] are pronounced the same no matter where they appear in a word.
      2. The verb 'estar' (to be, being) is for location and temporary states. 'Estoy' means ‘I am’ and 'estás' means ‘you are’.
      3. Adjectives ending in -o change to -a for girls, women and feminine nouns. Those ending in -e and -z don’t change.
      4. 'Estar' can be combined with adjectives to say how you and others are feeling.

      Keywords

      • Vowels - letters [a], [e], [i], [o], [u]

      • Estar - Spanish verb meaning 'to be, being' used for location or temporary states.

      • Estoy - part of the Spanish verb 'estar' meaning 'to be, being' meaning 'I am'

      • Estás - part of the Spanish verb 'estar' meaning 'to be, being' meaning 'you are'

      Common misconception

Vowels have the same sounds in Spanish and English.

Vowels are pronounced differently in Spanish. In Spanish, vowels only have one sound and are pronounced in the same way no matter where they appear in a word.

      Teacher tip

Teachers may wish to revisit the new vocabulary more than once and replay the game to practise and consolidate the new words. Teachers may also wish to use señor/señora as a way for pupils to address them in Spanish lessons.
