Key learning points
- Sound-spelling correspondences [r] and [rr] look similar and have the same letter; however, they make a different sound.
- Verbs communicate what I and others do or how they are.
- Hacer is an irregular -er verb in the 'I' form. I do is hago.
- Regular verbs follow regular rules; we change the -ar and -er infinitives to match the person doing the verb.
- To say 'she, he, it' with regular -er and -ar verbs, remove the -er / -ar. For -ar verbs, add -a, and for -er, add -e.
Keywords
Hago - I do, part of the verb 'hacer' meaning to do, doing
Haces - you do, part of the verb 'hacer'
Hace - she, he, it does, part of the verb 'hacer'
Common misconception
The sound-spelling correspondences [r] and [rr] look similar so are pronounced the same way.
[r] and [rr] are pronounced differently. The [r] is a soft sound like a quick tap of your tongue and the [rr] is a rolling sound - your tongue vibrates or rolls, like when you make the sound of a telephone ring - brrrrring, brrrrring!
