This unit builds on pupils’ previous knowledge of -ar verbs by growing their verb lexicon and introducing singular persons of -er verbs and the highly frequent irregular verb ‘hacer’ to do, make. Revisiting key verb patterns with new verbs is essential to securing the knowledge. Similarly, providing multiple opportunities to practise asking and answering questions with new vocabulary develops pupils’ communicative competence. In later units pupils will extend their knowledge from singular to plural forms of these verbs in the present tense.

- Pupils know key sounds [ca] [co] [cu] [ga] [go] [gu] .

What I and others do: singular regular verbs in the present
In this unit, pupils use singular forms of -ar and -er verbs, including the irregular verb ‘hacer’ to make, do in order to ask and answer questions in the present tense. New high frequency vocabulary gives pupils more words to talk about activities. Hard sounds ga, go, gu, ca, co, cu are revisited.
