Peru has always been a Spanish-speaking country.
Spanish only arrived in Peru in 1532, when Francisco Pizarro reached the Inca Empire. The official language of the Inca Empire was Quechua, which is still spoken by more than 10 million people, mainly in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.
