﻿Hello, my name is Jess. And today we're going to be looking at a story about holidays and different ways to travel on holiday. The things you will need for this lesson are the symbols: car, train, boat, plane, beach, mountains, jungle, city, cold, hot, travel, and holiday. And the questions. The symbols and questions are you need on this page. You can take a photo or print them off to use with the story. Press pause while you get things ready. Getting ready. You may need a quiet environment with minimal distractions, maybe turning off the TV. Find a place that your child is happy to work. This could be on the floor, at a table, or outside or anywhere else that they feel comfortable. Consider your child's sensory needs. This may mean checking lighting and other sensory distractions. You know your child best. If you know a resource that may work better, use that. Things don't always go to plan, be positive and just enjoy the session. Press pause while you get things ready. We're going to look at different places we can go on holiday, including going to the caravan, to the beach, to the mountains, skiing, and camping. We're also going to look at different ways of getting on holiday, including on a boat, on a plane, on a train and in a car. The story that we're going to read today is Jess is going on holiday. It's the summer holiday and Jess is going on holiday. Where should she go? Oh, let's have a think. Could you point to where Jess should go on her holiday or maybe look with an adult at maybe different places you've been that you think Jess should go on holiday. Is it to the seaside or to see some castles? Have a think, where should she go? Should she go somewhere hot or cold or somewhere quiet or noisy? Do you think Jess should go to the beach, the mountains, the jungle, or the city? Tell your adult by pointing or using your symbols or verbally telling your adult where you think Jess should go on her holiday. How should she travel there? Should she travel on a plane, in a car, on a train, or on a boat? Maybe you could look at some pictures from your own holidays about how you got on holiday. I think Jess may go in a car on her holiday. How you do you think she'll get on her holiday? Can you point and show us? Jess thinks really hard. The beach is hot and relaxing. She can go swimming and eat ice cream. How would she travel there? Would she travel on a plane or in a car? What would she wear? Would she wear a jumper and a woolly hat? Or would she wear shorts and a t-shirt? Who would she go with? The mountains are cold and snowy. Jess could go skiing or build a snowman. How would she travel there? Have you been to any mountains? How did you get to the mountains? What would she wear? Would she wear her sunglasses and her sun hat? Or would she wear her woolly hat and a big coat? And who would she go with? Would she go with her friends or would she go with her parents or maybe she would go with her grandparents? Use the symbols to see if you could make your story about where Jess is going. The jungle is quiet and leafy. She could look for animals or climb a tree. How would she travel there? Would she get there on a train or maybe on a plane? And what would she wear? What do you think, would the jungle be a hot place or a cold place? And who would she go with? Adults, you may want to stop the story on these pages to have a conversation with your child and maybe use the symbols or gestures or verbal language to talk about this and make their own story. The city is noisy and busy. Jess could go shopping or visit a museum. How would she get there? Would she go on a train or would she go on a bus? What would she wear? Was it a city that is hot or cold? And who would she go with? Which holiday should Jess choose? The beach, the mountains, the jungle, or the city? Point on the screen to which one you think she should go to. Well done. How could Jess travel to all of these different places? By plane, by car, by train, or by boat? Can you match them up? Maybe you could print this page off and draw a line so maybe Jess could get to the beach in her car or she could get to the jungle on a boat. See if you can decide how Jess will travel. I'm going to go on a plane to the beach. A car to the city. A train to the jungle. And a boat to the mountains. Thank you for listening to the story today. Maybe you could print some pictures off and create your own story, or look at some of your holiday pictures that you've maybe have been on and look at how you got there and where you went and which is your favourite. To make this lesson harder, you can make your own story about how you go on holiday and look at any old photos of holidays you've been on and make a story about your holiday using symbols. More ideas: look at different pictures of ways you can travel and can the child match the symbol to the picture? Look at different places you can go on holiday, maybe a caravan, a hotel.
