﻿Hello, my name is James and I'm your teacher for today's lesson. Today we're starting our new unit on measurement, and we're going to begin lesson one out of four, finding out all about comparing and ordering similarly sized objects by height. Get ready, I hope you're ready for some fantastic learning.

Prepare the working area. Find a quiet space to work away from all distractions, ensure that your learner is comfortable. And make sure that you've got all of your resources nearby. Press pause while you get things ready.

Let's get ready. Look, listen, learn. What am I learning today. Today, you're going to be identifying tall and short items and comparing them when given two different things. You're also going to be ordering three or more items by height. What words am I going to use today? Today We're going to be thinking about, and using the words tall, taller and tallest and short, shorter and shortest. Just for this lesson, you will need a variety of different items of different Heights, some short items and some tall items that you can compare and maybe some stacking toys. So today I'm actually going to be using a doll with different dolls stack inside of them. Pause the video whilst you get your resources ready. Which tower do you think is the tall tower? Pause the video whilst you have a look. Brilliant, this tower is the toll tower, it's much, much taller than the other one. Well done for your hard work on the last question. This time, have a look at these trees, which do you think is the tall tree? Pause video whilst you have a look. Well done, this tree is the tall, tall tree. It's much, much taller than the other one. Excellent, well done. You're all doing so well on these questions, you're working so hard. Lets have a look at these flowers, which do you think is the tall flower? Pause the video whilst you have a look. Amazing, this one is so much taller than this one. Excellent, well done everyone. Okay, this one is a bit harder now. Okay, so I want you to look really, really carefully. Which animal is the tallest one? Pause the video whilst you lock. Brilliant, you saw that the giraffe is the tallest animal. Well done. This time we're going to look at these two birds. Which do you think is the short bird? Pause the video whilst you have a look. Brilliant, this one is much, much shorter than this eagle. Excellent work, well done. Let's try it again. Which is the short tree? Pause the video whilst you look carefully. Wonderful, this one is the short tree. You're so good at this, well done. Okay, this one is more difficult now. Which is the shortest vehicle? Hmm, is it the bike? The bus or the van? What do you think? Pause the video whilst you have a look carefully. Well done, you got it right, excellent. You saw that the bike was the shortest vehicle. Okay. I've got some things here to help us think about tall and short. Can you see my ducks? Which do you think Is the tall duck? Hmm. I think it's this one. This one is taller than this one. Brilliant, let's try something different. I've got some bottles here. I've got a tall bottle and I've got a short bottle. Which do you think is the short bottle? Hmm, let me see, I know. I think this one is the short bottle, because the top of it is lower than the top of this one. Let's try again. I've got some pastor jars here, which do you think is the short one? Hmm, I know what I think. What do you think? Did you think this one too? This one is the short one. Yes I do too. Brilliant, well done. Let's try something a bit harder now. I've got these four statues, which statue is the tallest statue? Let's have a look. Is it this one? Hmm. I don't think so because this one is taller. Is this the tallest then? No, I don't think so because this one is taller. Hmm. This must be the tallest statue then, because there are no more that are taller. This statue is the tallest. Which is the shortest statue? Let's look, it's not this one. Is it this one? Hmm, no, because this one is much shorter, let's get rid of that one. Is it this one? This one is shorter, but it's not the shortest. This one looks to be the shortest one. It is much shorter than all of the others. Well done, excellent. And you've seen me have a go. Why don't you do it? Use your items. Can you identify the tall and the short ones? When you're give two, can you order lots of different items by height? Can you order the pictures on the worksheet? pause the video to complete your task. Well done for all of your work today on comparing and ordering similarly sized objects by their height. If you need to make today's work easier, try using items which have very, very clear differences in their height and only compare two items at a time. If you want to make it a bit harder order items, which are closer in height, Introduce non-standard measurements, such as how many hands tall might this be? And maybe you could even introduce the measuring tools such as rulers. If you want some more ideas, reinforce the terms short and tall in daily life, when describing everyday items. Maybe you could encourage your children to return books or toys to the tall bookshelf, and put the plates into the short cupboard. Share your work with Oak national.
