﻿Hello, my name is Helen and I'm your teacher. Today's lesson is lesson one of four in the measurement unit, Building Understanding. Today we're going to be looking at comparing objects and comparing towers. I'm going to describe them as bigger or smaller. For today's lesson you will need objects from your house that are different sizes and objects from your house that can be stacked, such as bricks or tins. So now you know who I am and you've got your resources ready. Let's find out what we're going to do during today's lesson. I will show you how to compare big and small objects. And then it'll be your turn to compare some big and small objects that you've found around your house. Then you will show me bigger or smaller than an object that I show you. Which tree is the biggest? Well done. Which elephant is the biggest? Excellent. Which apple is the smallest? You're right. Well done. Which bird is the smallest? Excellent work. I've got two pans here, but they're not the same size. Which one is the biggest? Great, that's right. It's this one. This is the biggest. Which pan is the smallest? Excellent, it's this one. Fantastic. We'll try that again with two different objects. I've got two cups, but they're not the same size. Which one is the biggest? You're right, it's this one. Fantastic. Which sup is the smallest? Yes, it's this one. Well done. We'll try that again with some other objects. Some plates. Which plate is the biggest? Great, it's this plate. Which plate is the smallest? Yes, you're right. It's this one. Excellent work. Now it's your turn to compare big and small objects. Place two similar objects from around your house in front of you. Which is the biggest? Which is the smallest? Repeat this task using different objects. Pause the video to complete your task and when you've finished click to resume. Which tower is the biggest? Yes, you're right. Well done. Which tower is the biggest? Fantastic. Which tower is smallest? Great work. Which tower is the smallest? Fantastic. Now it's your turn to compare big and small towers. Use some of your stackable objects that you found around your house to build two towers Which tower is the biggest? Which tower is the smallest? See if you think I've got it right. Is this tower bigger than this tower? It is. You're right. Well done. Fantastic. Let's try that again. I'm going to show you a tower that's smaller than this tower. See if you think I've got it right. Is this tower smaller than this tower? Yes, it is. Well done. I'm going to show you a tower that's bigger than this tower. Let's see if I'm going to get it right. Is this tower bigger than this tower? It's not. This tower is smaller than this tower. Did you get it right? Fantastic. I'm going to show you a tower that's bigger than this tower. See if you think I've got it right. Is this tower bigger than this tower? You're right, it is. Well done. Now it's your turn to show me bigger and smaller. Use some of your stackable objects that you found around your house to build a tower. Then can you build another tower that is bigger? Can you build another tower that is smaller? Pause, the video to complete your task and once you've finished click to resume. You've done a great job of comparing big and small objects. If you'd like to make it easier, try using objects that are very different in size. You could try drawing around the objects before comparing them. If you'd like to make it harder, try using two objects that are very similar in size. Try comparing objects that differ in width or length. For more ideas on how to compare big and small objects, you could go for a walk and compare the size of the objects you might see in the community. For example, trees, buildings, and cars. You could try drawing pictures or shapes of different sizes. Which is the biggest and which is the smallest? Well done, you've had a great lesson showing that you can compare big and small objects.
