﻿Hello, my name is Helen and I'm your teacher. Today's lesson is lesson three of four in the position and direction of the number, building understanding in unit. Today, we're going to be learning to explore the position and direction at different objects whilst we try to fit them into different size holes and boxes. For today's lesson, you will need some different sized boxes and some different sized objects to fit into the boxes. So now you know who I am and you've got your resources ready. Let's find out what we're going to do during today's lesson. I will show you how to post envelopes of different sizes into different sized postboxes. And we'll be looking at the position and direction of the envelope. We'll also look at posting objects of different sizes into different sized boxes. And then you have a go at doing this task. Finally, you'll complete an activity where you will identify, which is the best fit. Which letter is the best fit for this postbox? Fantastic. Which letter is the best fit for this postbox? Excellent. Which letter is the best fit for this postbox? Fantastic work. I've made two postboxes that have different sized holes in them. And I've got some different sized letters that I'm going to post into the most appropriate postbox, looking at their size. I'm also going to have to look at the position and the direction that I'm posting these letters into the postboxes to make sure they fit. So I've got two bigger letters and two smaller letters, and I've got a big postbox and I've got a small postbox. So which of these two letters do you think I'm going to post into the big postbox? That's right, the two big letters, I'm going to try and post those, because this hole is bigger in this postbox. Which postbox should I post these two small letters into? That's a great idea, we'll try and post them into the smaller postbox, it's got a slightly smaller hole. Let's try this one first of all, I'm going to try and put it into the postbox, does it fit? No, it doesn't. Let's try changing the position of my letter. I'm going to turn around and try and post it now. And it fits, fantastic. Let's try this small letter. I'm going to try and post it into my small post box, does it fit? No, it doesn't. So I'm going to try and change the position of my letter. Turn it round, does it fit? Yes, it does, excellent. Let's try the other one. My bigger letter is going to be posted into the bigger letter box, does it fit? Yes, it does. And we didn't have to turn it around. Will it work for this postbox and this letter? Does it fit? No, not this time. So I'm going to have to turn it around and see if it fits on changing the position and the direction I posted it, did work, fantastic. I've got three different sized boxes here, and I've got three different sized and shaped objects. And I'm going to look at placing the objects in a sensible box that they're going to fit into, but I might have to look at the position and direction of my objects to try and fit them into the box. Let's have a look at this soft toy first of all. Can I fit this soft toy into this box? Let's have a look. Will it fit in that position? No, it won't, you wrong. Let's try and change the position of the object and see if it will go in. Does it fit in the box now? No, it doesn't, you're right. Let's see if the soft toy will fit in this box. No, it's not going to go in like that. Let's try changing the position of the soft toy and the direction that I'm putting it into the box. No, it's not going to fit in, is it? Let's try a different box. Can I fit the soft toy in this box, in this position? No, I can't. Let's try changing the position. Have I managed to fit the toy in the box? Yes I have. And you can see it just about fits perfectly. Excellent. Let's try that again with a different object. Let's try this bunch of bananas. Can I fit this bunch of bananas into this box? Let's give it a go. Do they fit in like this? No, they don't. So let's try changing the position of the bananas. Do they fit into the box now? No, they don't, not really. Let's try a different box. Let's see if we can fit them into this box. Do they fit in the box like this? No, they don't. Let's try changing the position of the bananas. Do they fit in the box now? Yes they do, excellent. I've got a packet of dog treats here. Let's try and fit them into this box. Do they fit in the box like this? No, they don't. But if I change the position of the dog treats, do they fit in the box now? Yes, they do, well done. Let's try putting the dog treats into this box and see if they fit. They do fit, but as you can see, there's a lot of room in there, so I can't put them in this box. But they were about to fit in this box. So I'm going to put them in there. Let's see if we can put up our bananas into this box. Yes, I can fit them into that box. But again, as you can see, there's a lot of room in that box. So I prefer to put them in this box. Because they fit better. Now it's your turn to post objects of different sizes, into different boxes. Place your different sized boxes and objects in front of you, try placing in object into each of your boxes to explore which fits the best. Repeat this until all your objects are in a box. Pause the video to complete your task, and once you finished click to resume. Which postbox shall I post this letter into? Will it fit into this one? No, you're right it won't. How about this one? No, it won't. What's about this one?. Fantastic, it will fit into that one. Which postbox shall I post this letter into? Will it fit into this one? No, it won't you're right. How about this one? Yes, it will. But let's try the other one. It will fit into that one, but it fits this one much better, fantastic. Which postbox shall I post this letter into? Will it fit into this one? Yes, you're right it will. But will it fit into this one? Yes, it will fit, but it fits the other one a bit better, doesn't it? This one is a bit big. What about this one? I could post it into this one, but again, it's a little bit big. So it fits this one much better, well done. You've done really well exploring the position and direction of different objects. If you'd like to make these tasks a little bit easier, you could try using large objects and boxes. As you may find them easier to handle. You could try using objects of very different sizes and boxes of very different sizes. If you'd like to try and make it a little bit harder, you could use small objects and boxes that they maybe more difficult to handle, or you could use objects of similar sizes and boxes of similar sizes. For more ideas of how to complete tasks like this, you could practise putting objects into the correct size boxes whilst tidying up your toys. Or you could use different foods that are packaged in boxes, for example, cereal, biscuits, or teabags.
