﻿Hi, I'm really looking forward to our lesson today. I hope you are too. Before we get started, this is just a little reminder. We're here to support any approaches you might already be using and any work you might have already been set. We know that this lesson is going to be going up so many different children and families. So if you're not sure about anything or have any questions, then please do contact your usual therapy team. In today's lesson, we're going to look at planning what we wear. And this is important because sometimes the weather is different or we're doing a different activity or we have different preferences. So we have to be quite careful and know what we're going to wear. So planning of what we're wearing. Okay, what do you need to think about when you're planning your outfit, what you were going to wear for that day? So we need to think about the time of the day, the weather, and the occasion that we're going to, what are the expectations, and the quality of our clothing, the size of our clothing, the comfort, and also fashion. Okay, so the time of the day, why is this important? So let's have a think about it. Have you just woken up and you need to get dressed for the day? Or have you just had a bath and it's time to get dressed for bed? Have you just got home from school or from a sports activity and it's time to change into something a little bit more comfortable to wear around the house. So the time of day will really impact which clothes you will pick from. Okay, next we need to take into consideration the weather. You can plan your outfit according to the weather forecast if you set it out the night before, or depending on what the weather looks like when you wake up in the morning, okay. Is it a hot and sunny day? Is it cold and cloudy, rainy or windy? Because this will tell you what you need to take. Do you really need your sunglasses or you need your gloves, will you need a scarf or will you need a vest? Next, we have to think about the occasion or the activity that we're getting dressed for. The clothes that you need if you are going swimming is very different to the clothes that you might need when you go to school or if you're going to someone's party, okay? Then we think about the expectation. What is the expectation around you outfit? Well, this will depend on the activity. So when you go to school, most schools generally have a very clear expectation about what you have to wear. So not just do you have to wear a uniform, but there are clear rules around, for example, the type of shoe that you wear on a certain day. Shops might have an expectation that you weren't coming to the shops in your pyjamas with no shoes on, okay? And again, certain activities will expect a special outfit. For example, swimming, going skiing. You can't go swim in ski clothes and you can't go skiing in your swimming costume. It's really important that when you choose to wear something that you make sure that it fits you. If it is too small or too big, it will be really uncomfortable. And it also might not look right. Always check if the item that you're wearing is still in a good condition when you put it on, okay? Shoes with holes, for example, might cause discomfort, especially if it's raining and broken zips or missing buttons will make it really difficult to get dressed. And it will be really frustrating. And then comfort. Soft, stretchy fabrics, are generally much more comfortable than hard stiff fabrics, okay? Check the seams, check the elastics, the cuffs and the labels. If you think anything is going to annoy you, then ask an adult to, for example, cut out the label. Or you might say actually, I don't want to wear that today because my skin's feeling a bit more preppy than usual. If you can't cut out a label, then you might wear a vest under a top if it's got really scratchy seams, okay? Your shoes need to provide enough support and not hurt or rub your toes or your ankles. And then fashion. If fashion is important to you, you might choose your outfit based on your fashion sense. So I have chosen a headband that's blue with some colourful stripes to match my blue top today. Fashion is fun and you don't have to follow it absolutely. You can add accessories to your hair, such as a scarf or a pair of really interesting socks. You must wear what makes you happy. If you've done all the other checks then wear what is going to make you happy, wear would you enjoy. Now pause the video to get the items that you are going to need. Paper, a pen or pencil, some scissors and glue. Make sure that there's an adult there to supervise you when you use the scissors. Restart once you're done. Okay, so the next activity, we're going to look at what you shall wear. So you can draw out the pictures in the next two slides or print them out from the downloadable resource and play a game with an adult to match the clothes to the weather and the occasion. You can draw pictures of other clothes and accessories and match them as well. For there you can see you've got a range of clothes. There's even a little bowtie, how cute is that? And some gloves, some walking boots, okay? So what are you going to wear? And there is the weather, but also the occasions, okay? What are you going to wear to school, to the beach, to bed, to the Zoo or to a party when you're going shopping or to the playground? Pause the video now to complete your task, resume once you're finished. Remember when choosing your outfit, take your time, try and plan it the night before, so you're not in a big rush in the morning. Once the season go through your cupboard and get rid of any clothes which are too small or they're maybe slightly damaged, okay? Enjoy what you are doing. Planning your outfit can be really fun. And then make sure that you keep your shelves, your drawers, and your cupboards really well organised and tidy so that you can easily find the item of clothing that you're looking for.
