Where should we keep our things?

﻿Hi, I'm really looking forward to our lesson today. I hope you are too. Before we get started, this is just a little reminder. We're here to support any approaches, you might already be using, and any work you might have already been set. We know that this lesson is going to be going out so many different children and families. So if you're not sure about anything or have any questions, then please do contact your usual therapy team. Today, we're going to look at where we need to keep all our things. So in order to be organised, it really helps if everything that you have, has a specific place where you keep it, and we're going to look at ways that will help you to make sure that everything stays, in the same place. Okay, being organised is really important, okay? For me personally, it really helps keep me calm, and I know where everything is. But how did I decide where to put things? Well, the first thing you need to think about is, who does it belong to? If something doesn't belong to you, then you shouldn't have it. And it should go to the person who owns it. And then you need to think, where do I need to put it, okay? And, things that will really help you, is if you keep the same routine, and within that routine, you're going to follow it. And you're going to have a set place for each thing, every time. Using storage boxes and labels are really helpful. And getting into the habit, of keeping your things where they need to be kept. Okay, pause the video now, to get the items that you will need. You will need paper, a pen or pencil, and then some storage bins or boxes, draws, plastic wallets, ask an adult what you can use and what's spare, okay? And then your diary or your planner. Restart once you're done. Okay, why do we put things in the same place each time? Well, firstly, if something belongs to us, we really need to take care of it. And, if we always put it in the same place we know that it's safe, it's not going to get lost or damaged, okay? If things are in the same place, you can always find it really quickly. Which means you're not going to be wasting time, looking for it. And that means that when you're organised, you're going to be calm, you're going to be confident. You're not going to be panicking or stressing, or worrying about where your things are, or if something's gotten damaged, because you didn't put it in a certain place. Okay, so, for your first time activity, I want you to make a list of your daily routines, okay? So do a list for the morning, have a little tick list of everything you need to do. What you need to go to school, coming home from school. And then do you have a, a routine for after school and for the evening. Pause the video now, to list your daily routines. Resume once you're finished. Okay so, now we're going to look a little bit more in detail into each of those routines and look at what we need for all of those. So you might, there, you can have an example. When you wake up, you need your clothes, you need to clean your teeth, then you need to eat. So we're going to think about all the things we need for that. Then you're going to go to school. So what do you need, to leave for school? You need your bag, your lunch, your water. Then you're going to be at school and you're going to go home and your bag is really going to be packed, okay? After school, what's your routine for after school? Now, every family has a different routine, okay? And you might also have a different routine, depending on the day. So, your routine might be you get home, you get changed, have a little play, a little snack, check your bag, do your homework, and then pack your bag for tomorrow, okay? Your evening routine might be that you eat, so you have your meal with your family, or just depends on the day again. If it's going to be different, then you're going to have a bath or shower, some quiet time, get your clothes ready for the next day and, then you have your bedtime. And your routine might be that you read a book on your own. And then you read with an adult, you chat about tomorrow, and then you go to sleep. Pause the video there, to make a list of what you need for each routine. Resume once you're finished. Okay, for our next activity, we're going to plan storing things for each routine, okay? So when you wake up, you need to plan where you're going to put your clothes so that you always find it. So the night before you've taken out your clothes and you might always put them on the dresser. You might put them on a coat hanger and hang it on your door. Or leave it in a pile on a chair next to your cupboard for example, okay? So your clothes are going to be there. Then you're going to have your toothbrush and your toothpaste. It could be in the same cup in the bathroom. And what do you need for eating? So you need to go to the kitchen, and get all of those bits done. To go to school you need your bag, your lunch and your water. And you could leave that at the front door. So it's always in the same place, okay? At school, you usually keep your bag with you. Or if it's break time, you'll put it in a certain place. Now, always school at again, leave it in the same place. So you roughly have an idea of where it's going to be. When you go home, make sure that you have everything in your bags again. And then you're going to do your afterschool routine. So, your bag, where does your bag go? Your shoes, where do you put your shoes? Where do you hang your coat? What happens to your dirty clothes? Where are you going to put your homework, okay? Your evening routine just depends on your routine. And then for bed time, are you going to have a book next to your bed? Is your alarm clock next to your bed? Okay so, some storage ideas, every household is completely different, okay? In my house you'll find a lot of little patches, with wires in them, okay? I have little boxes like that, where I, for example, keep all the headphones. So, you can see that all the headphones are on and that, in that pouch, and I have, for example, I got boxes that might have my fidgets or some coins just nearby, okay? So every household is different. You have to find what works for you and what you have available, okay? I want you to pause the video now, to plan where you're going to keep all of your things. Resume once you're finished. Remember, empty your bag every day. Put things in the same place every day, so that you always find it, okay? When you come home from school, leave your shoes in the same place. So as you don't have to spend hours going, "where are my shoes, you've taken it." Or anything like that, okay? So, have those routines and stick to it. And remember the more you do it, the more you practise it, it will become a habit. And, you'll then know that your things are always in the same place, okay? Take care of your stuff, okay? It's your stuff, it's really important. So you need to take care of it, yeah? Use plastic folders and sleeves to organise things for your routines. You might have a little pouch that's got all your stuff in for your homework, okay? And it's really important. It doesn't matter what you use or what you choose to use. Just make sure you use it, every single day.
