﻿Hello, everybody. My name's Emma. And welcome to today's lesson. I'm looking forward to today's session and I hope you are, too. I can't wait to get started. But before we do, just a quick reminder. We here at Oak are here to support any approaches you might already be using and any work you might have already been set. We know this lesson is going out to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure or have any questions, please do contact your child's school or usual speech and language therapy team. In today's session, we're going to be starting our project for module six. We're going to begin by making our first few pages of our very own communication passport at home. I'm going to be sharing some advice on how you could share some really important information about yourself in your communication passport. And we're going to be thinking all about you. Who you are and what you look like. So for today's session, you'll need some paper and writing equipment. You'll need some colouring pencils or pens, if you have some at home, and a camera, some scissors, and some glue. Before we begin though, find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed for the lesson. Turn off any distractions or notifications that you might have running on your device, and make sure that you and your adult are seated comfortably. When you're ready, let's begin. Okay. Let's start by doing some talking, thinking about you. A communication passport is a way of passing on important information to other people about you. This information will help them to get to know you, and importantly, help those people to understand how to best support you. We're going to be working on making our own communication passport for you, at home, over the next few lessons. So pause the video here. We're going to need a picture of you. You could use a phone or a camera, if you have one. When you've taken your photo and you're happy with it to go on the front cover of your communication passport, come back to the video and press play to continue. Here's an example of how you might want to lay your communication profile front cover out. You might want to put the picture of yourself in the middle with your name underneath. It might also be helpful to have an explanation of what the communication profile, or this book, is about. Here you can see, I've just made a simple sentence that says, "This is my communication passport. In here you can find." You might want to use this front cover as an example, but you could also decorate it and make your own really personal to you. Include pictures and colours and things that you really like. So pause the video to make your front cover with your adult. And when you're finished, come back to the video and press play to continue. The next page that we need in your communication passport has to give us all of the information about you and what you look like. Again, I've given an example here. You might want to put your picture in the middle of the page and then have boxes around this picture that label what you look like. You might want to include the things that people see, like your hair colour and eye colour, as well as details about when your birthday is and how old you are. So pause the video here to make your all about me page with your adult. When you finish, come back to the video and press play and we'll complete the lesson. The third page that we want in our communication passport needs to have five vital facts about you. We're going to call it our give me 5 page. You can start by taking a plain piece of paper and drawing around your hand on it. And then on each of your fingers and thumbs, have a box. In these boxes, you need to think of the top five things that a new person would need to know about you. For example, how do you move around? Or do you have any allergies that people need to be aware of? So pause the video here to make your give me 5 hand page with your adult. When you finish, come back to the video and press play to continue. If you can, make a few copies of your communication passport as we go along. Share it with your school and other carers or people who help you and make sure that everyone is aware of where to find your communication passport. Remind them to keep checking for regular updates and encourage people to use your communication passport as a helpful tool to get to know you and start interesting conversations with you. Well, that brings us to the end of today's lesson, but a really big well done on all the fantastic work you've put in to starting your communication passport today.
