﻿Hello, everybody. My name's Emma, and welcome to today's lesson. I'm looking forward to today's session, and I hope you are too. I can't wait to get started, but before we do, just a quick reminder. We here at Oak are here to support any approaches you might already be using, and any work you might have already been set. We know this lesson is going out to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure or have any questions, please do contact your child's school or usual speech and language therapy team. In our final session today, we're going to be adding our very last piece of information to your communication passport. We're going to be thinking about your qualities and strengths. We're going to be thinking about your skills and talents, and we're going to include this information in your communication passport. For today's lesson, you'll need some paper and some writing equipment. You'll also need some colouring pencils or pens, a camera, if you have one to hand, some scissors and glue and some old magazines or newspapers. But before we begin, find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed for the lesson. Turn off any distractions or notifications that you might have running on your device that you're using to watch this lesson, and then make sure that you and your adult is seated comfortably. When you're ready, let's begin. Okay, let's start by doing some talking and thinking about your qualities and strengths. As we know, a communication passport is a great way of passing important information on to other people. So far, we've included information all about you, your family, and what's important to you. We've shared top tips and information on how people can help you and support you in the best possible ways. And we're finishing by thinking about celebrating skills, qualities, and all of your successes. When we're thinking about what we're good at, it can be tricky. Sometimes it makes me shy thinking about the things that I might be good at. Everyone has different things that they're good at. Some people are good at things, like swimming, whereas other people are good at things, like reading and counting. Everybody has their own individual strengths and talents. Pause the video here to think about some of the things that you're good at. Talk this through with your adult and maybe let them tell you some of the things that they think you're amazing at. When you finished, come back to the video and press play to continue. When we're thinking about adding this information to our communication passport, it might be helpful to gather some pictures of you doing the things that you have skills or talents in, of finding some pictures from the internet, magazines or newspapers. Here I've taken two pictures of things that I'm quite skilled at. I enjoy horse riding, I've been doing it for awhile, and I'm quite good at it. So I've included a picture. I've also done lots of sailing in my life, so I've included a picture of me sailing here as well. Pause the video here to make yourself a summary page of your skills and talents. When you've gathered up some pictures and stuck this into your communication passport, come back to the video and press play to continue with the rest of the lesson. Now we're going to have a think about your qualities. Here are some key words that we often use to describe people's qualities. Pause the video to spend some time talking about these key words with your adults. Look up what they mean in a dictionary, and think about how people show these qualities in their everyday lives. Pause the video on the previous slide to focus in on the words, or you can use the downloadable resource. When you finished, come back to the video and press play to continue. Now that we have a good, solid understanding of what these keywords mean, let's think about what people like about you and what your qualities are. You might need to hand this over to adults and other people who work with you. Ask them what they think your qualities are and why. Here I've included an example that my mom told me. She thinks that one of my qualities is that I'm funny. When I asked her why, she said it was because I know some good jokes that make people laugh. This is just an example of how you can lay this type of information out. It's really up to you how you choose to show and talk about the things that people like about you. So pause the video here to make this page for your communication passport. When it's ready, ask various adults and other people to describe you and fill it in. You could also make a page about your adult that you're working with right now. What do you think their qualities are? When you've completed this activity, come back to the video and press play to finish the lesson. So remember, it's really important that we keep multiple copies of our communication passport so that we can share this with everybody who's working with us. Make sure that everyone knows where to find the communication passport and remind them to check for updates. If any of the information that you've included in your communication passport changes, just change it as well. I encourage everyone to use this amazing tool that you've worked on to help them to get to know you.
