﻿Hello everybody. My name's Emma and welcome to today's lesson. I'm looking forward to today's session and I hope you are too. I can't wait to get started, but before we do just a quick reminder we here at Oak are here to support any approaches you might already be using and any work you might have already been set. We know this lesson is going out to so many different children and families. So if you're not sure or have any questions, please do contact your child's school or usual speech and language therapy team. In today's session, we're adding even more information to your communication passport. This time, it's going to be thinking in a little bit more detail about the things that you really like, the things that you'd like to talk about, and how best to communicate with you. So for today's session you'll need some paper and writing equipment. You'll need some colouring pencils or pens and some scissors and glue. Before we begin, find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed for the lesson, turn off any distractions or notifications that you might have running on your device, and then make sure that you and your adult are seated comfortably. When you're ready, let's begin. Okay, let's start by doing some talking and thinking about how adults can communicate with you. As we know, a communication passport is a really handy way of passing on important information to others. This information helps them to get to know you and how to best support you. Over the last few sessions we've included all this information in your communication passport. But today, we're focusing on how best to communicate with you. Pause the video here to have a think about all the things you love to talk about and write these down with your adult. When you finish come back to the video and press play to continue. Here I've included an example of how you might want to lay this information out. I've included a heading for my page and then I would like to include some pictures of my favourite movie, football team, and dog because they're the things that I love to talk about. Pause the video to get some images for your page to add to your communication book. When you finish come back to the video and press play to continue. Next, we need to include some information that shares details about how you communicate. With your adult, think about what you're able to communicate and how you communicate it. You might want to include information about how you interact with others and how you play with others. Pause the video here to think about your communication skills and make a page for this in your communication passport. The last thing that you might want to think about putting into this section of your communication passport are some strategy pages. Here I've included an example of some please dos. These are just four simple strategies that really help me when people are communicating with me. So I'm sharing them so that my carers and helpers know exactly what to do to help me communicate best. Here, I've had to think about things that really don't help me. These are things that people should avoid when they're communicating with me. You might want to use these two pages as examples to create your please dos and please do nots. So pause the video here to think about what's helpful to you, make a page for this in your communication passport. This is your opportunity to tell the people who are communicating with you, how best to communicate. Remember, try and make a few copies of your communication passport, and share these with school and other carers or people who help you. Make sure everybody knows where to find the communication passport and remind them to keep checking for regular updates. Encourage everyone to use this as a helpful tool to get to know you and to be able to start interesting conversations with you. Well, that brings us to the end of today's lesson, but a really big well done for all the new information you've added to your communication passport today. Don't forget to share this with school.
