If I know that 3 plus 4 is equal to 7, then I know 3 tens plus 4 tens is equal to 70.

'Counting in ones' is the most efficient way of counting

If I know that 6 = 4 + 2 and 5 = 3 + 2, then I can use these facts and say that 65 - 42 = 23.

'Counting all' is the most efficient way of counting

There will be more number bonds for 7 than 8

There will be fewer number bonds for 5 than 7

Each number can be split into 1 whole and 2 parts

4 + 5 and 5 +4 count as the same number bond
