Description

In this unit, pupils learn about EDM (electronic dance music), the main features of the style and the impact these features have on creating excitement in the music and a danceable groove. They learn about arranging through creating a remix of a famous melody.

This unit extends pupils’ understanding of pop drum grooves and bass patterns, while further developing confidence and creativity when working with a DAW. Pupils focus on drum grooves, particularly four-on-the-floor, and on composing syncopated basslines, widening their understanding of key pop music features. They explore arranging techniques and learn to use DAW tools such as risers, EQ and volume automation to create effective build-ups, contrast and climactic moments in their music.

  1. Creating an EDM drum beat
  2. Creating a syncopated EDM bass line
  3. Developing texture and timbre in EDM
  4. Using DAW tools in an EDM remix
