Key learning points
- A protractor can be used to draw angles.
- Protractors have two scales from 0 to 180 degrees.
- Start from zero when reading the scale on a protractor.
- Line the protractor up with one of the lines forming the angle.
Keywords
Protractor - A protractor is an instrument used to measure angles.
Angle - An angle is a measure of turn.
Polygon - A polygon is a 2D shape made up of three or more straight lines.
Common misconception
Pupils draw a straight line to begin to create their angle and then place the centre of the protractor in the middle of the straight line.
Encourage pupils to place the middle spot of the protractor on one end of the straight line as this will make it easier to mark on the second line to create the vertex once the protractor has been removed.
