Lesson details
Key learning points
- Move: lunging around the court and back to the middle makes it easier to win points.
- Think: returning the ball/shuttle quickly and into space reduces your opponent's time to recover from the last shot.
- Think: easy points can be won by leaving the ball/shuttle when it is going out.
- Feel: commitment to play by the rules requires self-motivation and will make games more enjoyable.
- Connect: supporting one another to progress requires being respectful and giving feedback kindly.
Keywords
Precision - being calculated and accurate
Strategies - a plan of action to achieve an overall aim
Flight - the path of the ball/shuttlecock in the air
Common misconception
Pupils use short steps and run through as they hit the shuttle which leaves them out of position for the next shot.
Using long lunges and recovering back to the middle of the court quickly between each shot reduces the space and options available to your opposition.
Tie additional nets or tape to extend the nets between courts so you get more pupils working at the same time. Two use each half court and two more use the tramlines and gap between the courts with a make shift net. Just remember to keep rotating who is using which space and safe pratice distances.
