I can use the words 'clammy', 'gleaming' and 'oppressive' effectively in multiple contexts.

- Gleaming is an adjective which means shining or bright.
- Oppressive is an adjective which means heavy, harsh or overpowering.

Common misconception
Pupils will need some extra explanation for some of the oppressive word pairs such as 'system'.
Provide pupils with examples of how a system, a ruler or a government might be oppressive in nature.
Ensure pupils understand that whilst these words have been grouped together because they are associated with heat, they can also be used in a wide range of contexts. For example, 'a gleaming sword' or 'an oppressive silence'.
