      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can evidence key aspects of manufacture.

      Key learning points

      1. Manufacturing should be evidenced.
      2. Key aspects such as safety and quality are evidenced when manufacturing.

      Keywords

      • Communicate - express, share, or present ideas to others

      • Evidence - documented proof

      • Design decision - a deliberate choice to meet a requirement or solve a problem

      Common misconception

Students become so busy manufacturing their design solution that they often forget to evidence their manufacture.

It's easy to overlook the effort behind a product from the final photo. Documenting the manufacturing process highlights the skills, techniques, safety, and quality checks students use, proving their work, not the technician's.

      Teacher tip

A note on a board or a projection, encouraging pupils to take photos during the lesson is a visual reminder for them to document their manufacture and to keep on top of their evidence rather than leaving it till the end.
