      Why this why now

This unit is the culmination of prior learning of designing, making and evaluating. Students can use knowledge from previous Year 10 iterative design units, nature and student living as foundations for independence. Here we build on pupils' design and technology capability by reflecting on the techniques learnt to design, make and evaluate. This unit can be used when introducing the Non-Examined Assessment allowing pupils to have autonomy to select the most appropriate technique for the context.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • Pupils can generate design possibilities and a design brief.
      • Pupils can identify and discuss client needs and wants.
      • Pupils can identify and discuss social and moral issues.
      • Pupils can identify, collect and use feedback to evaluation and critique.
      • Pupils can create and communicate ideas.
      • Pupils can identify the features of a manufacturing specification.
      • Pupils can identify and explain the plan for making a product.
      • Pupils can identify and explain how to realising ideas safely and accurately.
