      Developing vocabulary associated with anger

      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can effectively use new vocabulary associated with anger.

      Key learning points

      1. 'Fuming' is an adjective which means you are feeling lots of anger building up inside.
      2. 'Grumpy' is an adjective which means you are feeling stuck in a bad mood.
      3. 'Annoyed' and 'frustrated' are other adjectives associated with anger.
      4. Word choices must be precise in writing and speaking.

      Keywords

      • Synonym - a word that has the same or similar meaning to another word

      • Adjective - a word that describes a noun

      Common misconception

Pupils may find it difficult to agree on where each word should be placed on the scale of 'angry to angriest'.

Explain to pupils that this is subjective and some people may think 'grumpy' is more angry than 'annoyed'. Encourage pupils to justify their point using the conjunction,' because'.

      Teacher tip

When completing the CfUs in LC1, pupils can share imaginary scenarios. They do not have to always give real-life, personal experiences.
