  2. 'Grumpy' is an adjective which means you are feeling stuck in a bad mood.
  3. 'Annoyed' and 'frustrated' are other adjectives associated with anger.
  4. Word choices must be precise in writing and speaking.

Keywords

  • Synonym - a word that has the same or similar meaning to another word

  • Adjective - a word that describes a noun

Common misconception

Pupils may find it difficult to agree on where each word should be placed on the scale of 'angry to angriest'.

Explain to pupils that this is subjective and some people may think 'grumpy' is more angry than 'annoyed'. Encourage pupils to justify their point using the conjunction,' because'.
