Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. A design is a drawn and labelled plan for what something is intended to look like when complete.
  2. A design includes labels and captions.
  3. A design includes what materials or things you will need to make it.
  4. A noun is a naming word for a person, place or thing.
  5. An adjective describes or adds detail to a noun.

Keywords

  • Design - a drawing of a plan for what something is intended to look like

  • Noun - a naming word for a person, place or thing

  • Adjective - describes a noun

  • Caption - a brief description accompanying an image in non-fiction texts

Common misconception

Pupils may add a capital letter and full stop to their caption e.g. 'Fresh cucumber.'.

When modelling, explain a caption is not a sentence. Model mistakes for children to discuss and check.
