This unit uses and builds on previously taught vocabulary for describing characters, settings and scenes, including action words in the Year 5 unit 'Action words'. Here, pupils learn new words to support the descriptive writing of varied characters and scenes, specifically for emotions words. This unit prepares pupils for learning a wider range of vocabulary to describe characters, settings and scenes in narrative writing, including more setting words in the Year 6 unit, 'Setting words'.
