Threads

Why this why now

Pupils know the present tense of -er verbs and in this unit they consolidate it together with the negative and asking and answering questions. Opportunities are provided here to embed this skill in the context of everyday school activities. Pupils are then introduced to the perfect tense with avoir (je form) and the formation of regular past participles of -er verbs, of faire and dire.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know how to conjugate -er verbs in the present tense in all persons.
  • Pupils can form questions using intonation and inversion with and without question words.
  • Pupils can negate a present tense sentence using ne...pas.
  • Pupils know the present tense of the irregular verb 'avoir'.
  • Pupils know the meanings and use of the irregular verbs 'faire' and 'dire'.
