      Why this why now

This unit builds on two-verb structures using aller and infinitive and modal verbs with infinitive. Pupils apply known vocabulary in new contexts of future plans, and talking and writing about work experience. Pupils now use negation more confidently with two-verb structures and add 'il faut/il ne faut pas' to their repertoire in talking about rules and expectations at work and preparing for a job interview. Word patterns are consolidated and feminine adjective agreement rules extended and cultural enrichment provided on the goals and ambitions of a France national team football player.

      Prior knowledge requirements

      • Pupils know the present tense of the verb 'aller' in all persons.
      • Pupils know to use aller + infinitive to talk about the near future.
      • Pupils know how to ask questions, with and without question words, with one and two verb structures.
      • Pupils know the present tense je, tu, il/elle forms of the modal verbs vouloir, devoir, savoir and pouvoir.
      • Pupils know how to negate single and two-verb structures using ne...pas.
      • Pupils know that feminine adjectives have to agree with the noun they are describing.
