Key learning points
- The perfect tense can be translated into the simple past and present perfect in English depending on the context.
- The present tense has one conjugated verb; the perfect tense has two verbs, a part of avoir/être + a past participle.
- Use a conjugated form of 'avoir' with most verbs but use 'être' with movement verbs and past participles must agree.
Keywords
Perfect tense - a verb tense that describes completed actions in the past e.g. 'I said', 'she played'
Common misconception
Always use the verb 'avoir' to help you form the perfect tense.
Remember - for movement verbs and 'rester' use 'être', instead of 'avoir', to help you form the perfect tense.
