Key learning points

  1. A relative clause provides more information about a noun from the previous clause without beginning a new sentence.
  2. Relative clauses can be formed using 'qui', 'que', 'quand' and 'où'.
  3. Using the perfect tense and imperfect tense together enables us to express ongoing and isolated events in the past.
  4. The BORDER acronym is a useful tool to respond fully and accurately to bullet point writing prompts.

Keywords

  • Relative pronoun - a pronoun that introduces a relative clause

  • BORDER - acronym used to respond fully and accurately to bullet point writing prompts

Common misconception

I can't use the imperfect and perfect tenses together.

The two past tenses work together well to give a full description of past events. Use the perfect tense for completed actions and the imperfect to describe what things were like.
