- Verbs which express a change of state, place or condition often use être as the auxiliary verb in the perfect tense.
- Past participles used with être must agree in gender and number with the subject of the verb.
- A well-developed or extended response in conversation has at least three verb clauses.

Common misconception
It is acceptable to only give short answers in the conversation element of the speaking exam.
Students should focus on giving answers in conversation that include at least three verb clauses. They should also regularly practise developing their answers with different verb tenses, subjects, opinions and reasons.
