I can read and respond to extended texts about cultural groups in Morocco and I can use regular and irregular present participles.

- Some regular present participles are: partant, venant, ouvrant, choisissant, entendant, prenant, connaissant, écrivant.
- The present participle of faire is 'faisant'; 'faisant de' + noun means making something.
- The irregular present participles of être and avoir are 'étant' and 'ayant'.
- Extended reading texts can be exploited to enrich our thematic vocabulary and use of complex structures.

Common misconception
Present participles are always preceeded by 'en'.
The present participles 'ayant', 'étant' and 'faisant de' can be used without the preposition 'en' e.g. 'Ayant une grand-mère musulmane, je sais beaucoup sur l'Islam' - having a muslim grandmother, I know a lot about Islam.
Teacher tip
Task B2b has two options. Option 1 is aimed at the majority of students and Option 2 provides a more structured and shorter format to the task, for students who need more support with completing the task.
