Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Globalisation has had an important role in the development of Indonesia.
  2. Government policy has had an important role in the development of Indonesia.
  3. International aid has helped Indonesia develop and take part in globalisation.

Keywords

  • Foreign direct investment - FDI is money invested by a company or country into businesses or infrastructure in another country

  • Outsourcing - when a company hires another business, often in a different country, to carry out work such as manufacturing or customer service

  • Transnational corporations - TNCS are large companies that operate in several countries; they often have headquarters in one country and factories or offices in others

  • Aid - help given by one country or organisation to another, often to support development or recovery; it can be money, resources or expertise

Common misconception

Aid is separate from globalisation and has nothing to do with how Indonesia connects to the world.

When countries like Australia or organisations like the EU give aid to Indonesia, they are building connections through education and infrastructure. This support helps Indonesia grow economically, attract investment, and take part in global trade.
