- Object pronouns show the grammatical gender of the object, e.g., ‘ich sehe den Mann’ - ‘ich sehe ihn’.
- Use the accusative case with direct object pronouns, e.g., ‘ich sehe ihn’.
Keywords
Subject pronoun - replaces the noun doing the action of the verb, e.g., I, you, she, they
Object pronoun - replaces the noun receiving the action of the verb, e.g., me, you, it, them
Accusative case - case used for the direct object in a sentence, after most verbs and some prepositions
Common misconception
'Es' is the only word used to translate 'it' in German.
'Es' is for neuter nouns or abstract ideas. Use the correct subject or object pronouns according to the grammatical gender of the noun they replace.
