Children may confuse groups with number of items.
Clear teacher modelling of groups, demarcating groups and physically placing items into groups e.g. a bundle of straws with an elastic band.
This lesson is all about grouping and equal groups. Encourage children to make equal groups using items in the classroom. Use of language such as "There are ___ equal groups of __________." Children will also be introduced to the bar model whereby the number of bars represents the groups.
