Keywords
Addend - An addend is a number added to another.
Sum - The sum is the the total when numbers are added together.
Column addition - Column addition is a way of adding numbers by writing a number below another.
Common misconception
Pupils may not refer to the size of the numbers when manipulating the digit cards.
Encourage them to talk about the size of the numbers and whether the digit cards represent ones, tens or hundreds.
Pupils would benefit from having the number cards 0-5 to help them solve the problems in the lesson.
