Common misconception
Pupils will need to be able to count in steps of 6 to succeed in this lesson and have a good recall of the 6 times table. Calculation errors will occur frequently if there in insecurity in this area.
Consider pre-teaching pupils still insecure with this, and / or providing scaffolding such as a times tables grid.
Teacher tip
As with all Oak lessons, teachers should take a lesson design approach and consider delivery. For example, you may feel it beneficial to deliver it as two different lessons, focusing on Cycle 1 (hours and minutes) in lesson one and hours and on Cycle 2 (minutes and seconds) in lesson two.
