Lesson details
Key learning points
- Move: hitting the ball with accuracy, by aiming the racket head towards the target, enables us to win points.
- Move: taking the racket back and swinging forwards quickly increases power, allowing us to aim for targets further away.
- Think: when a target is further away, you have to hit the ball with more power to ensure the ball travels far enough.
- Feel: not giving up and continuing to try your hardest even when you don't hit the target demonstrates determination.
- Connect: playing by the rules when you are competing against your partner shows empathy.
Keywords
Power - the ability to use force when aiming at different targets
Target - an object you are aiming for
Opposition - a person or team we are playing against in a game situation
Common misconception
Some pupils forget to follow through and stop their racket immediately after hitting the ball.
Ensure pupils understand that a proper follow through, towards the target, is crucial for both power and accuracy. Remind them if you see the racket stopping too early or ending up pointing to the sky or to the ground.
