Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: moving with fluidity throughout the sequence requires accurate timing with no pauses between actions.
  2. Move: executing quality movements in unison, with control and extension in and out of balances, requires flow.
  3. Think: resourcefulness enables us to select the best movements and symmetrical balances to include in the sequence.
  4. Connect: remaining in unison through the sequence requires effective collaboration to ensure we have accurate timing.
  5. Feel: rehearsing the sequence to improve the fluidity and accurate timing throughout requires self-discipline.

Keywords

  • Unison - performing the same movement at exactly the same time as our partner

  • Accurate timing - performing movements and balances at the exact time you planned or expected

  • Fluidity - moving from one action to another without stopping

Common misconception

Pupils use the floor to create their linking movements in unison and move around the apparatus instead of using it.

Explain to pupils that the apparatus is there to be used and that we can really enhance our creativity if we try and include a range of apparatus in our movements.
