Key learning points

  1. Move: moving our bodies to music requires us to perform actions with clear, defined movements that express emotion.
  2. Think: understanding the words of a song helps create meaningful actions to express our emotion.
  3. Feel: striving to always try your best, even if you feel embarrassed or you find it difficult, shows self-motivation.
  4. Connect: helping others in the group to create movements linked to words shows cooperation and trust.

Keywords

  • Emotions - feelings that we have in response to a situation, event or thought that influence our mood or behaviour

  • Actions - movements that show specific meanings, emotions or technical skills.

  • Expression - showing how you feel

Common misconception

Pupils may feel uncomfortable or vulnerable when reflecting on the abstract ideas of the poem, which can make it difficult for them to focus, relax and link their work to the meaning of the poem.

Support pupils to open their minds to new concepts and to focus only on themself when reflecting. Explain to pupils that only by trying something with full effort and concentration can the benefits be felt.
