Training with intensity
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can understand the impact of training at intensity on my body and can plan accordingly.
Key learning points
- Move: maintaining form throughout high intensity workouts will maintain efficiency of movement.
- Move: performing light activity or complete rest on rest days promotes recovery.
- Think: planning an effective training programme takes careful management of work and rest.
- Feel: pushing yourself to train with intensity over an extended period of time, requires commitment and resilience.
- Connect: supporting others when they are working harder than usual offers reassurance and encouragement to continue.
Keywords
Intensity - how hard you push your body during training
Recovery - rest or light activity that helps the body repair and improve
Rest - taking time off training to let the body recover and improve
Common misconception
Pupils may not understand the relationship between rest and workouts, believing that more training, equals more progress.
Help pupils to understand the requirement for sufficient rest and recovery time if the body is to make adaptations and improve.
Teacher tip
Encourage pupils to be honest about their weekly schedules, including other sports or commitments. This helps them create a realistic plan they can stick to and reinforces the idea that quality, not just quantity, leads to improvement.
