Performing and supporting the performance of others
Lesson details
Learning outcome
I can perform a routine and provide constructive feedback to others.
Key learning points
- Move: a quality routine requires control, consistent flow, accurate timing and excellent movements from start to finish.
- Think: deciding which movements to perform as a group requires analysing various options.
- Think: if a mistake is made, continue to keep the routine flowing and show poise to minimise further deductions.
- Feel: demonstrating confidence when performing helps execute skills making it more visually pleasing for the audience.
- Connect: motivating and setting targets for classmates can help as they seek to complete their best performance.
Keywords
Routine - a series of specific movement and balances that you practice and perform in a particular order
Perform - to show a skill or routine in front of others
Flow - moving from one movement to another without stopping
Common misconception
When working in bigger groups, there may be issues with group dynamics as pupils have to negotiate which movements they will use. Not all pupils in the group may be able to perform the movements.
Pupils could delegate a leader or be encouraged to listen to each other when working in bigger groups. Pupils may have to consider adapting their routines to help other members of their group.
Teacher tip
Pupils may need support when peer assessing. You could demonstrate the process displaying the worksheet with some examples of the sort of feedback you would expect.

We use learning cycles to break down learning into key concepts or ideas linked to the learning outcome. Each learning cycle features explanations with checks for understanding and practice tasks with feedback. All of this is found in our slide decks, ready for you to download and edit. The practice tasks are also available as printable worksheets and some lessons have additional materials with extra material you might need for teaching the lesson.
The assessment exit quiz will test your pupils' understanding of the key learning points.
