Common misconception
Pupils think to solve a problem has a just one single option.
Problem solving is not linear, nor is there only one universal problem solving technique. The right approach depends on the nature of the problem in a specific context.
Teacher tip
For human knot and connection in cycle 1, the preference might be for pupils to be connected using a relay baton or bib. In cycle 3, tennis rackets can be used an alternatives for sections of drainpipe.
