Key learning points

  1. Move: fully extending your body parallel to the goal provides the maximum amount of protection to prevent a goal.
  2. Think: explaining the rules to others and supporting them to stay within them supports inclusion and fairness.
  3. Feel: supporting others fosters a sense of connection and makes a positive impact making you feel valued and purposeful.
  4. Connect: providing encouragement to players of all levels of experience strengthens the sense of team spirit.

Keywords

  • Inclusion - ensuring all young athletes feel welcome and valued, regardless of their skill level, experience or background

  • Empathy - understanding and sharing the feelings of young athletes to provide appropriate support and comfort

  • Encouragement - offering positive feedback and motivation to boost an athlete's confidence, performance and build their self-esteem

Common misconception

If you can't see the outcome of your performance, you are unable to learn how to improve.

Receiving feedback from teammates and other pupils about your performance will enable you to learn and make progress.
