Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: vaults are performed in one continuous movement demonstrating fluidity and efficiency.
  2. Move: travelling over obstacles requires strength and the ability to coordinate different body parts.
  3. Think: how you approach an obstacle often determines which movement you can perform fluently.
  4. Feel: moving in creative and fun ways helps to give you inspiration and increase enjoyment.
  5. Connect: communicating ideas with other pupils helps you to overcome difficulties and improve your vaulting technique.

Keywords

  • Obstacle - any physical object or structure to move over, under, around or through

  • Vault - a movement technique used to efficiently and swiftly overcome obstacles by leveraging both the upper and lower body

  • Strength - the ability to generate force, maintain control and execute movements such as vaults, jumps and landings with precision and fluidity

Common misconception

Fear of falling or not clearing the obstacle can lead to hesitation which can then affect the flow and overall success of the vault.

Gradual progression and practising on lower obstacles can help build confidence.
