Why this why now

Pupils will already have used a variety of apparatus and covered the basic movements used for flight and safe landings. They will already be able to set up apparatus safely and recognise the importance of practising within their limits. Later in gymnastics they will apply these skills in trampolining with a focus on aesthetic appreciation and linking controlled movements.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know how to move creatively showing variety including changes in levels, direction and using a range of body parts.
  • Pupils understand how to choreograph sequences that flow, incorporating a wide range of movements and balances.
  • Pupils are able to communicate and work well with others to overcome challenging tasks and solve problems.
  • Pupils show a willingness and desire to learn new and more complex skills.
