      Lesson details

      Learning outcome

I can perform different types of passes to keep possession of the ball.

      Key learning points

      1. Move: receiving a ball safely with one or two hands requires moving our body towards the ball to keep it under control.
      2. Move: keeping possession of the ball requires us to execute a variety of accurate passes.
      3. Think: the ball must be passed within 4 seconds to avoid violating the possession rule.
      4. Feel: increased confidence comes from success but it's also important to notice the benefit of learning from mistakes.
      5. Connect: respect is shown for others by playing fairly and safely.

      Keywords

      • Bounce pass - a short pass in a crowded area that hits the ground once

      • Overhead pass - a pass thrown from above the head to outwit a player marking the ball, usually over a longer distance

      • Accuracy - a skill that reaches the intended target

      Common misconception

Pupils think they only have 3 seconds to pass the ball like in netball.

In Korfball pupils have 4 seconds to pass the ball.

      Teacher tip

If you dont have Korfballs you can use handballs or netballs instead. Try and have equal gender split in all teams in all practices to replicate Korfball rules.

      Equipment

4 (or more) korfball/netball posts, 1 korball per 4 pupils and 3 sets of 8 bibs.
