Pupils will already have developed a wide variety of skills, tactics and strategies from various games with the ball in hand. This unit requires pupils to lead and coach each other in a different game. Pupils can take these skills, experiences and positive attitudes towards participation in a range of invasion games into life with confidence and consequently lead healthy, active lives beyond school. They will also be able to spectate and socialise in and around competitive sport with an appreciation and understanding of how to play.
Prior knowledge requirements
- Pupils know the basic skills of invasion games like netball (e.g. passing and shooting)
- Pupils understand how to score a goal by shooting through the hoop.
- Pupils are able to pass accurately in any direction over varying distances.
- Pupils show ways to motivate others and work successfully in a team.

This unit challenges pupils to apply some tactics and strategies gained from netball and basketball to a new sport whilst focusing on respect for others and leadership skill development. Pupils will apply more advanced tactics and strategies whilst securing their understanding of a new game.
