Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: pump fakes mislead defenders and create space for a shot or pass.
  2. Move: shooting the ball with 2 hands is more accurate, but 1 handed shots can be useful for quick close range shots.
  3. Think: passing to a free teammate when you're marked by a defender and unable to take a shot, requires decision making.
  4. Feel: confidence involves trusting your own judgement and decisions, even in the face of uncertainty or opposition.
  5. Connect: getting free to make a successful shot on goal is a team effort of creating multiple options and deception.

Keywords

  • Defended shot - a shot is considered defended if the defender is within arm's reach, directly in front of the shooter, actively defending (hand up, facing the attacker)

  • Pump fake - a quick motion that mimics a shooting action without actually releasing the ball

  • Overhand shot - a shooting technique where the player throws the ball towards the Korf (basket) using an overhead motion

Common misconception

Misconception: Pupils think you should always use two hands to shoot in Korfball.

Two-handed shots are useful, especially when you're learning, but they’re not always the best choice. In a match, you might need to shoot quickly or when a defender is close. One-handed shots can be faster and harder to block.
