Key learning points
- Move: always running anti-clockwise between the four wickets avoids confusion and collisions.
- Think: stakes are high to avoid mistakes as the whole team is out whenever a team accumulates three outs.
- Feel: awareness of when to hit, run and throw to positively affect the game comes with practice.
- Connect: working in a four player team demands strong leadership and communication.
Keywords
Strategise - to carefully plan how to achieve success by making decisions and organising actions
Communication - talking with teammates to call runs, plan tactics, or encourage each other
Anti-clockwise - moving in the opposite direction to the hands of a clock
Common misconception
Communication after the ball is hit can be inconsistent in cricket. Having four players to coordinate means the need to communicate clearly about how many runs to make is even more important.
Allow pupils time to strategise about how they will communicate after the ball is hit. For example, they may nominate a captain to make all calls or decide that the batter who hit the ball makes the call.
