Why this why now

Pupils will already have improved their consistency, timing and fluency in the execution of batting, bowling and fielding skills. They will design games that enable groups to become immersed in activity which will have a positive effect on mental health. Later in striking and fielding games pupils will be challenged to adapt and transfer skills to softball whilst learning a new set of rules, techniques and tactics. They will also be able to spectate and socialise in and around competitive sport with an appreciation and understanding of how to play.

Prior knowledge requirements

  • Pupils know how to perform a range of batting shots including drives and sweeps.
  • Pupils understand the impact quick and clear communication between both batters and between fielders can have on performance.
  • Pupils are able to perform the role of umpire, making key decisions such as LBW and run outs.
  • Pupils show the ability to regulate emotions during high pressure situations such as a run chase.
