Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Introverts are typically shy, quiet, and prefer solitude, often excelling in individual sports.
  2. Introverts may perform better in low-arousal situations requiring fine skills.
  3. Extroverts are sociable, enthusiastic, and thrive on interaction, often excelling in team sports.
  4. Team sports suit extroverts due to their high energy, gross motor skills and need for social interaction.

Keywords

  • Personality - the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character

  • Introvert - a quiet, passive, reserved, shy personality type, usually associated with individual sports performance

  • Extrovert - sociable, active, talkative, out-going personality type usually associated with team sports players

Common misconception

This lesson gives the impression that there are only two types of people and people should be defined as one or the other personality.

Although the AQA specification has clear definitions of how introverts and extroverts typically behave, which will be required knowledge in the exam, students should understand that people's personality is more nuanced and goes beyond these.
